Mayors Push For More Gun Control
Hours after the recent shooting in Newtown, Conn., Boston Mayor Thomas Menino issued a statement calling for a national gun control policy. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a vocal proponent for increased gun control, also put out a statement calling for immediate action on gun control legislation from the President.
Mayor Menino and Mayor Bloomberg co-chair Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition of more than 700 mayors across the country who advocate for stricter gun control. Jake Sullivan, a liaison for Mayors Against Illegal Guns, spoke with Boston Public Radio about how this coalition, and cities' mayors are responding to this latest mass shooting.
