The final edition of The Phoenix.

Sad news yesterday. Publisher Stephen Mindich announced that he's closing The Boston Phoenix, or as it's been referred to over the past year, The Phoenix. The current issue (pictured) will be its last.

I wasn't a devoted reader but I did dip in from time to time to find some very good journalism. If you consider only Chris Faraone's reporting on the Occupy Boston movement and how far he was ahead of the rest of the local media in covering that story, you get some sense of the void that will be left.
