ATC Audio: Peter Kadzis on the Life and Death of the Boston Phoenix
One of New England's oldest alternative newspapers, is shutting down after 47 years because of a long-term decline in advertising revenue. The Boston Phoenix has ceased publication of its print edition and is cutting 40 jobs immediately. Executives say the Phoenix will publish its last online issue next week.
Executive editor Peter Kadzis joined All Things Considered's Jordan Weinstein to talk about the paper's closing.
Phoenix publisher Stephen Mindich says that sister publications in Providence, R.I., and Portland, Maine, will remain in business because their local advertising markets sustain them. Kadzis will also be a guest on Boston Public Radio, Friday beginning at noon here on 89.7, WGBH.
